Americans with Disabilities Act Seminar

Part 1

This session will discuss the Americans with Disabilities Act, including the definition of disability, enforcement and the history of the law. Discussion will include which entities are subject to the ADA, scoping requirements for ADA compliance and the building blocks for the accessible design of elements. Also, the design standards of several elements will be covered, including drinking fountains, restrooms and signage. The requirements related to alterations made to covered facilities will also be reviewed. Register here for Part 1

Part 2

This session will examine accessible routes per DOJ and DOT ADA Guidelines. The scoping requirements for accessible routes will be reviewed, as well as the building blocks for accessible design of routes. The design standards for various components of accessible routes will be covered, including ramps, curb ramps, stairways and handrails. Site arrival point scoping and design standards will be covered as well (parking, passenger loading zones and bus stops). The presentation will include a discussion of the Proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way. These guidelines, when adopted, will differ from the current ADA standards for sites and buildings. Register here for Part 2
